South African Airways offers the convenience of direct flights to Lilongwe. This exceptionally green capital city is named after the great Lilongwe River that flows into Lake Malawi.

The city’s ethos is gentle, chivalrous and respectful, while its locals are famously friendly and warm. Its pace is unhurried and the city features enjoyable, unassuming restaurants, a few shopping malls, lively markets and easy traffic. Lilongwe consists of two contrasting parts, the smart, modern Capital City and the streets and markets of the Old Town. The Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary is situated at the city’s heart, marking the perfect centrepiece for the capital.

Lilongwe International Airport is located roughly 30km from the urban centre. The hub is served by various transport options, including taxis and minibuses. Car hire and shuttle facilities are also available at the airport.

SAA flies into Lilongwe daily and you can rest assured that these flights deliver excellent turnaround times and exceptional world-class facilities.

Don’t miss an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. Visit the Kumbali Cultural Village to see traditional Malawian dancing and drumming, live acoustic music and a traditional Malawian dinner or explore the second-hand clothing markets to pick up authentic retro fashion.

So, whether it be for business or leisure, make sure Lilongwe is on your list of places to visit.  For other spectacular destinations in South Africa and the world, or for more information about Lilongwe, visit our destinations page.

You are welcome to join our SAA Voyager loyalty programme. The programme aims to reward regular flyers through the accumulation of miles. These Voyager Miles can be redeemed for flights, upgrades and other rewards. To sign up for the SAA Voyager programme take a look at our Voyager page.
