South African Airways are proud to announce our new on-board menus in both Business and Economy cabins. On all flights from London Heathrow to Johannesburg, SAA’s on-board catering partner, Gate Gourmet, offers a selection of high quality, international inspired dishes complemented with award-winning South African wines.
SAA Business and Economy customers travelling from London will enjoy restaurant quality gourmet menus on board. We serve a seasonal quarterly menu made with locally sourced ingredients, including British raised bacon as well as lettuce from Kent for our summer salads.
South Africa has a unique heritage of winemaking and we are proud to serve exclusively South African wines on-board our flights. For the past 30 years, SAA has chosen the very best South African wines from across the country to offer passengers. Our on-board wine list changes on a monthly basis so be sure to check which wines are being served on your flight.
Award-winning catering
SAA’s gourmet history is a tale of culinary excellence told through the vision of South African chefs and over a decade of awards. On flights from South Africa, South African celebrity chefs, Reuben Riffel and Benny Masekwameng, have helped SAA serve a creative and consistently delicious menu that competes with those of top restaurants. SAA has also been ranked in the top ten in the World’s Best Business Class Airline Catering at the 2014 Skytrax World Airline Awards. SAA is the only African carrier to achieve this ranking, and the only carrier flying directly between London and Johannesburg to achieve a top ten status. As a further testament to the airline’s commitment to quality and service, in 2015 SAA was also named "Best African Airline" for the fourteenth consecutive year and "Best Airline Staff Service Africa" for the fifth consecutive year!
Business class dining and wine
In Business Class, passengers can choose between a beef bresaola dish, seasonal salad or soup of the day to start. Delicious entrées include seared beef fillet, roasted chicken supreme, a seafood trio or tomato and aubergine stew with polenta. Desserts include vanilla and blackcurrant cheesecake or Belgian chocolate truffle.
The new menus are supported by award-winning, locally-produced South African wines. 24 white and 24 red of the very best vintages have been selected from more than 730 South African wine producers.

Economy class dining
Following the announcement of SAA’s new catering partner earlier this year, Economy passengers can enjoy a choice of mouth-watering dishes such as chicken, tarragon and leek stew served with green beans, basmati rice and carrot batons or orecchiette pasta in a creamy tomato sauce, topped off with a delicious apple spice cake for dessert.
