Travelling Safe
-
Additional Baggage
Should you require to travel with more baggage than is permitted on the fare and itinerary that you are travelling, SAA recommends that you complete the purchase of additional baggage online. This allows for faster airport time and reduced human interaction.
-
Face Masks
Current regulations require the wearing of face masks when in public areas. SAA encourages this behavior for your own safety and protection. Do ensure to carry a spare mask. Passengers are required to wear masks or face coverings that cover their nose and mouth to minimize transmission. Once the mask is dampened by secretions or contaminated by other contaminants, facial masks should be replaced with new ones, and hands sanitized.
-
Avoid Travelling when Sick
Sickness weakens one’s immune system and may make a person susceptible to contagious disease. SAA recommends the postponement of travel when ill. We encourage you to make use of our offer for a ‘one free change’ to your itinerary if required.
-
Arriving at Airport
Covid-19 protocols vary at the different airports that we serve. To ensure that you are not rushed through airport processes do arrive early for your flight. For international or regional travel we recommend at least 3 hours for the scheduled time of departure.
-
Physical Distancing
When moving through the different customer touch points, for your own protection keep a safe physical distance of at least 1,5m between you and the next person.
-
Cabin Crew
Our Cabin Crew are required to wear masks covering nose and mouth during the entire journey. All crew under-go daily Covid-19 screening before being cleared to operate a flight.
-
Sanitizing
All passengers will be required to hand sanitize at all our touch points prior to boarding the aircraft and additional sanitizers are loaded on board should the customer require any usage.
-
Service Equipment
Our service equipment is thoroughly washed inside and out before and after every flight operation. Meals and snacks are packed in clean equipment under hygienic conditions.
-
On-Board Cleaning
Our aircraft are deep cleaned every night paying attention to common touch areas such as seatbelts, meal trays, overhead storage compartments and lavatory areas.
-
Cabin Air - HEPA Filters
The air in Airbus aircraft cabins passes through extremely efficient filters, which remove particles in the air down to the size of microscopic bacteria and virus clusters such as the MERS (Corona virus) and Wuhan Corona virus with extremely high efficiency (with an efficiency of better than 99.99 per cent).

On-Board Amenities
Fresh and clean linen, blankets and pillows are available on some flights. These amenities go through the laundry after each flight and are then packaged and prepared for the next flight.
