Passengers and crew from SA286 received medical attention
JOHANNESBURG. 16 July 2014. South African Airways (SAA) would like to advise that injured passengers and crew who were on board flight SA286 en route from Johannesburg to Hong Kong, have received the necessary medical attention.
The flight was operated on an Airbus A340-300 aircraft, which departed on Tuesday, 15 July at 17h11 (SA time).
SA286 landed safely in Hong Kong today, Wednesday, 16 July, at approximately 06h30 SA time (12h30 Hong Kong time). The crew of the flight immediately requested medical assistance for the passengers, which was arranged and ready on arrival of the aircraft in Hong Kong.
SAA can confirm that of the 165 (plus one infant) passengers on board the aircraft, 20 were injured (17 passengers and 3 crew members). Of the 20 injured, two were seriously injured, with the remaining 18 who experienced minor injuries. The seriously injured were taken to the Prince Margaret Hospital and the North Lantau Hospital in Hong Kong. Some passengers have received medical attention and have been discharged.
Crew members who were not injured have been transported back to their hotel. SAA staff accompanied passengers to the hospitals. SAA’s town office, with SAA’s handling agent in Hong Kong is also assisting passengers.
The interior panels of the aircraft were damaged and the aircraft is being repaired.
