Ms Siza Mzimela begins her tenure at SAA in the position of CEO from 1 April 2010.
Current Acting-CEO of SAA, Chris Smyth tendered his apologies to the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee meeting prior to its commencement, and requested the Chairperson’s permission to send a delegation headed by a senior member of the executive team to meet with the Committee. This was accepted by the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee prior to the meeting.
The Committee was dissatisfied since they expected the new CEO to attend as they were unaware that Ms Mzimela only commences duty on 1 April 2010.
SAA wishes to clarify any inaccurate information and misunderstanding in media reports and emphasise that at no time did the airline intend to undermine or disrespect the Committee or its Chairperson in any way. We do value our good relationship with the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprise as a key stakeholder in the airline.
