AII Africa Senior Championship 2026

THE All AFRICA SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026

The All Africa Senior Championships is the continent’s showpiece badminton event – the tournament where Africa’s best players and national teams come together to decide who wears the crown of African champion and who carries the flag at the world level. The competition dates back to 1979, when the first African Badminton Championships were held in Kumasi, Ghana. Over the years, it has moved across the continent, with recent editions hosted in countries such as Egypt and Cameroon. Titles have been shared mainly among the traditional powerhouses of African badminton – including Algeria, Egypt, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda – whose players and teams have built a strong record at the event.

This year’s edition will be held in Gaborone, Botswana, with matches at the Royal Aria Sports Arena, giving Botswana the opportunity to join the list of countries that have hosted Africa’s premier badminton event and to welcome the continent’s top players in the build-up to the next Thomas & Uber Cup cycle.

Alongside the individual championships, the All-Africa Men’s and Women’s Team Championships will be held concurrently and serve as Africa’s official qualifying events for the 2026 BWF Thomas Cup (men) and Uber Cup (women). The winning men’s and women’s teams will secure Africa’s places at these World Team Championships, making the week hugely important not just for medals, but for global representation.
