About Polokwane Polokwane is the capital of the Limpopo province and was formerly called Pietersburg. It’s a pleasant town of wide, jacaranda-lined streets and green open spaces. It had a facelift for the Fifa 2010 World Cup when it hosted one of the matches and it has a few interesting museums and some wildlife viewing opportunities. It’s a good winter destination, with year-round sunshine.
Travel Tips You’ll need a car – or a very accommodating taxi driver – because public transport is scarce and most of the interesting attractions are quite far flung. Be ready to stop and stock up with mangoes, avocados and bananas from the roadside stalls as you drive around Limpopo is the SA’s main agricultural territory.
