Munich International Airport offers non-stop flights to the SAA hub Johannesburg as well as to Cape Town and onward to numerous destinations within Southern Africa.

Terminals

Munich International Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which are within walking distance.

Check-in

Airport check-in and bag drop

The check-in area of South African Airways is located in Terminal 2, Level 03. Self-service kiosks are also available for check-in in Terminal 2. SAA uses check-in counters 320-327.

Online check-in: opens 24 hours before departure

Online check-in

To avoid queuing at the airport, online check-in opens 24 hours before each flight and will remain open up to 2 hours before each international departure.

  • You can select your seats free of charge and print your boarding pass in advance.
  • If you do not have access to a printer, you can print it at the self-service kiosks at the airport or download it to your mobile device, if you are flying from an eligible airport.
  • Dedicated bag drop counters are available at the airport, where your bags will be tagged.

Connections

Connecting at Munich International airport is simple and easy.

Domestic – domestic connections

When flying within Germany through Munich International Airport, bags are through-checked to the final destination. There is no need to clear customs, simply collect your bags.

Recommended minimum connecting time is 45 minutes. Please allow extra time if you require special assistance or you are travelling with children.

Lounges

The lounges are situated in the transit area in Terminal 2. SAA passengers may use the Lufthansa business lounges located in Terminal 2, Level 04, Gates K (Schengen) and Level 05, Gates L (Non-Schengen).

Getting to and from the airport

Munich International Airport is approximately 35 km from Munich's city centre.

Taxi

Taxis are available in the arrival’s area of Terminal 2 in front of the Munich Airport Center (MAC).

Car hire

Several car hire providers such as Sixt, Europcar, Avis, etc. can be found in the car rental center (Terminalstraße Mitte, 85356  München) at Munich International airport.

Bus/Train

The S1 and S8 S-Bahn lines connect the airport with the center of Munich, with departures every 10 minutes. The airport is also easy and convenient to reach by bus from the Munich city center as well as from Ingolstadt and Landshut. The FlixBus bus stop is just a few steps away from Terminal 2. It takes about five to ten minutes to get to Terminal 1. The stop of the Lufthansa Express bus is in front of the Munich Airport Center (MAC). This central area of the airport is just a few steps from Terminal 1 and 2.

Hotels at the airport

A number of hotels are located close to the terminal and can be reached on foot in minutes or via shuttle bus from the arrivals area in front of the Munich Airport Center (MAC). You will find more information on the hotel options at www.munich-airport.com.
