Consent is required for passengers under the age of 12, travelling unaccompanied on an SAA flight.
Copies of the below documents are a requirement in order to confirm the unaccompanied minor request;

  1. Unabridged Birth Certificate of the unaccompanied minor travelling
  2. ID or Passport of parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and proof of residence
  3. Death Certificate (of any deceased parent reflected on the unabridged birth certificate)
  4. Court Order or Affidavit (where applicable)

The travel consent must be completed and submitted to us by completing the fields below. If you have trouble submitting the travel consent electronically, please download and complete the manual consent form and email us all supporting documents.

Conditions of travel for unaccompanied minors

Unaccompanied Minors may only travel if:

  • Prior authorisation from SAA was received “and copies of the below documents are uploaded in order to confirm the UMNR request”
  • For South African nationals, the Unabridged Birth Certificate of the UMNR travelling; valid passport biography page for all other nationalities
  • Court Order or Affidavit (where applicable)
  • Death Certificate (of any deceased parent reflected on the unabridged birth certificate)
  • ID or Passport of parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and proof of residence
  • Both parents whose details appear on the UBC shall give consent in order for the child to travel. Kindly take note that where only one parent’s details appear on the UBC, only such parent’s consent is only required
  • Unaccompanied Minors should reach their destination before 20:00 hrs for all direct flights. In cases where connecting flights are applicable it is not mandatory. Connecting flights may not be on the next day
  • The child is escorted to the airport and checked-in by a responsible adult, and received at their destination by an authorised adult
  • The child is in possession of written consent on the reverse of last coupon of unaccompanied minor booklet which must be completed by the parent(s) or guardian when the minor is accepted at the airport

Declaration of parent or guardian

I/we* confirm that I/we* have arranged for the abovementioned minor to be accompanied to the airport of departure and to be met at stopover/destination point on arrival by the persons named. These persons will remain at the airport until the flight has departed and/or be available at the airport at the scheduled time on arrival of the flight.

Should the minor not be met, I/we* authorise the carrier(s) to take whatever action they consider necessary to ensure the minor’s safe custody including return of the minor to the airport of departure, and I agree to indemnify and reimburse the carrier(s) of the necessary and reasonable costs and expenses incurred by them in taking such action.

I/we* declare that the minor is in possession of all travel documents (passport, visa, health certificate, etc.) required by the applicable laws. Furthermore it is agreed that a tag reflecting the name and address of escort at destination be pinned to the clothing of the minor.
