There are differing opinions on when the falls are at their best. In full flood from February to May the volume of water is mind-bogglingly beautiful. But the spray and the mist at the viewing points will drench you and often hide the view. In October and November the water level is low, so you have panoramic views with no mist. But the Zambian side of the falls may have dried up completely. If you want to combine your trip with a safari, try the dry winter months of June to August for plenty of water with a slight mist, great game viewing and warm days with temperate nights.

The US dollar is king. A multi-currency system means most places will happily accept the South African rand, US and Australian dollars, Chinese yuan, Japanese yen and the Indian rupee. If you don’t have any of those, you can change money exchange bureaus and hotels. ATMs are around and credit and debit cards are also useful.
The best time to visit is from February to May after the summer rains, when the falls are at their most spectacular. The least stunning views are from October to November when the weather is hot and humid, but the rivers are still low after the dry winter months. Most rain falls between October and February with a dry period from May to August.

The town centre is small and walkable, but several of the attractions are a ride away. Taxis are a great way to get around Victoria Falls and are plentiful. The communal minibus taxis are used to dealing with foreigners too. There are plenty of tour operators who can also organise trips and pick-ups for you. Many of the hotels run free shuttles to the major attractions.
