Frankfurt International Airport offers non-stop flights to the SAA hub Johannesburg as well as to Cape Town and onward to numerous destinations within Southern Africa.

Terminals

Frankfurt International Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 is mainly for Star Alliance carriers and terminal 2 for all other airlines. Terminal 1 and 2 are connected by bus services and via the SkyLine train.

Check-in

Airport check-in and bag drop

All SAA check-in desks are located within Terminal 1, Concourse B, Level 2. Self-service kiosks are also available for check-in in Terminal 1. SAA uses check-in counters 659 (Business Class) and 660-663 (Economy Class).

Online check-in: opens 24 hours before departure

Online check-in

To avoid queuing at the airport, online check-in opens 24 hours before each flight and will remain open up to 2 hours before each international departure.

  • You can select your seats free of charge and print your boarding pass in advance.
  • If you do not have access to a printer, you can print it at the self-service kiosks at the airport or download it to your mobile device, if you are flying from an eligible airport.
  • Dedicated bag drop counters are available at the airport, where your bags will be tagged.

Connections

Connecting at Frankfurt International airport is simple and easy.

Domestic – domestic connections

When flying within Germany through Frankfurt International Airport, bags are through-checked to the final destination. There is no need to clear customs, simply collect your bags.

Recommended minimum connecting time is 45 minutes. Please allow extra time if you require special assistance or you are travelling with children.

Lounges

The lounges are situated in the transit area in Terminal 1, Concourse B. SAA passengers may use the Lufthansa business lounges located near gate B24-28 and B44-48 as well as the Air Canada Lounge located on Level 3 (stairs to Level 3 are close to gate B42).

Getting to and from the airport

Frankfurt International Airport is approximately 13 km from Frankfurt's city centre.

Taxi

Taxis are available in the departure’s as well as the arrival’s area of Terminal 1.

Car hire

Several car hire providers such as Sixt, Europcar, Hertz, Avis, etc. can be found in Terminal 1, Area A, Level 0 at Frankfurt International airport.

Bus/Train

A large number of bus connections are available for getting to and from the airport. You will find bus stops opposite to Terminal 1 (Arrivals level). The airport's station for short distance trains is located on the ground floor of the airport below Terminal 1. Moreover, you can reach Frankfurt Airport via its own long-distance train station, which offers many direct connections within Germany and neighboring countries.

Hotels at the airport

A number of hotels are located close to the terminal and can be reached on foot in minutes or via shuttle bus from the arrivals area. Frankfurt airport also offers a transit hotel, called MY CLOUD Transit Hotel, which allows international passengers (with at least one Non-Schengen flight) to check into the Hotel without having to leave the transit area and enter the Schengen zone. It is situated in the non-Schengen area at terminal 1, Gate Z25.
