This month we celebrate our heritage and freedom with Human Rights Day on 21 March in South Africa, which marks and observes a significant moment in our history, the Sharpeville massacre and the heroes who stood up to secure the freedom we enjoy today.

On 21 January 2020, SAA’s new Airbus A350-900 operated its first international flight from O.R Tambo International (ORTIA) airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport. The cockpit of the A350-900 is depicted in our header image.

SAA Brings Miss Universe Back Home Aboard New A350-900 Aircraft

We were honoured to bring Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi back home aboard our brand new Airbus A350-900 from New York.

Like Zozibini, you can enjoy the four A350s superior features such as a quieter cabin and relaxing in-flight experience including the all-new In-flight Entertainment (IFE), extra-legroom seats in Economy Class and lie-flat beds in Business Class.

Airlink introduces flights between Johannesburg and East London

Effective 16 March 2020, Airlink will launch a mid-morning flight between Johannesburg and East London. The flights will depart daily from Johannesburg at 10h10, arriving in East London at 11h45 and the return flight will depart East London at 12h15 arriving in Johannesburg at 13h45.

Airlink’s E-jet services will offer an intra-continental style Business Class service. The E190 jets are configured with 6 Business and 92 Economy Class seats.

Voyager Miles Expire on 31 March 2020

Please ensure you redeem any Miles due to expire on 31 March 2020. Miles due to expire are recorded on the mini statement at the top of this newsletter.

As a reminder, Voyager Miles will not expire if a member has flown 6 000 SAA Tier Miles during the preceding calendar year.

Self-service Star Alliance online-bookings now available

We are pleased to advise that bookings can now be done online at flysaa.com utilising miles for travel on Star Alliance member airlines. The online booking facility caters for point-to-point return bookings.

Companion Awards for the Nedbank SAA Voyager credit and cheque card holders

Whilst the final Business Rescue Plan of SAA is still work in progress, the validity date of all the domestic companion tickets earned during 2020, will be extended by three months from the date of reaching the qualifying threshold. This is to ensure that Voyager activates an appropriate value proposition once the final domestic schedule of the SAA group is known after the publication and voting by creditors and funders of the Business Rescue Plan due at the end of March 2020.
