SAA Cargo wins Air Cargo Brand of the Year in Africa

We are proud to inform you that South African Airways Cargo was awarded the prestigious Air Cargo Brand of the Year in Africa at the STAT Times International Award for Excellence.

The excellence awards were presented at a glittering gala awards ceremony on 22 February in Rivonia, Johannesburg. The Award is recognition for awareness and trust in the SAA Cargo brand based on its products and services. It demonstrates service reliability and is a confirmation that it is top of mind to airfreight users in Africa and those doing business with Africa.

The awards, organised by STAT Times, the flagship publication of the STAT Trade Media Group, take place every two years. The winners were nominated and voted for by the worldwide air-cargo community readers of STAT Times via an online poll.

South African Airways expands code-share with Ethiopian Airlines

South African Airways (SAA) and Ethiopian Airlines, both members of Star Alliance, have expanded the code-share service agreement from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, to Johannesburg, SAA’s hub, and from Addis Ababa to Bamako in Mali with all these flights operated by Ethiopian aircraft.

Besides Toronto as the additional destination on offer, the expanded code share now also offers a direct service between Addis Ababa to both Cape Town and Durban. These routes will be operated by Ethiopian Airlines, with SAA as the marketing carrier.

In return the East African carrier code-shares on SAA’s aircraft between Johannesburg the coastal cities Cape Town and Durban, as well as Windhoek in Namibia. The routing Addis Ababa - Johannesburg is operated by Ethiopian Airlines, while Johannesburg – Cape Town and Johannesburg - Durban legs are operated by SAA.

South African Airways adds capacity on Victoria Falls route with the introduction of wide-body aircraft

With the expansion of the Victoria Falls International Airport in Zimbabwe, South African Airways has increased capacity between Johannesburg and the popular leisure destination of Victoria Falls. The recent introduction of Airbus A330-200 wide-body aircraft on the route, adds 60% more capacity in each direction, on a daily basis.

South African Airways Airbus A330-200 aircraft accommodates 222 passengers, in a dual-class configuration of 36 Premium Business Class seats and 186 Economy Class seats.

The launch of the Airbus A330-200’s on this route is aligned with the increase in tourism demand to Zimbabwe and the recent completion of a $150 million investment to upgrade the facilities at the Victoria Falls International Airport, with the opening of a new terminal and other improvements to the airport infrastructure.

South African Airways realigns South America route network

South African Airways (SAA) has announced plans to realign its South America network operations. The realignment of their South American network is informed by SAA’s commitment to continue serving this very important market with the best connectivity and includes availing more capacity. In some markets SAA has been able to deploy bigger aircraft as well as increase frequencies in order for them to satisfy demand.

SAA currently operates ten non-stop flights between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo, with double daily flights on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (Johannesburg departures) and Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays (Sao Paulo departures). The three-night time departures from Johannesburg – Sao Paulo – Johannesburg (SA224/SA225) are the flights that will be removed from the SAA schedule. This means that the SAA daily flights will remain operating to the current schedule.

Airlink launches direct flights between Cape Town and Victoria Falls

Effective 2 July 2017, Airlink will launch direct flights between Cape Town and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, offering a daily service, except on Saturdays. The flight will depart from Cape Town International at 08h30 arriving at Victoria Falls International at 11h15. The return flight will depart Victoria Falls International at 11h45 arriving at Cape Town International at 14h40.

Airlink increases capacity between Cape Town and Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA)

Effective 2 July 2017, Airlink will add a second flight operating between Cape Town and Nelspruit, daily except on Saturdays. The additional flight has been added in response to market demand and will provide travellers with increased flexibility when planning their itineraries.

The route will be operated by a 37-seat Embraer ERJ135 regional jet. The flight will depart from Cape Town International at 15h00 and arrive in Nelspruit KMIA at 17h15, and depart from Nelspruit KMIA at 17h35 and arrive at Cape Town International at 20h00.

Validity period for Voyager Awards and Award Tickets

International tickets are valid for 12 months from the date of first travel (first departure date). Domestic tickets are valid for 6 months from the date of first travel.

Awards for Airlink, SA Express, SAA Upgrades and all other partner airlines are valid for 6 months from the date of issue. These flight Award tickets must be booked and ticketed within 6 months from the date of issuing the Award. Your travel dates can be outside this 6 month window period.

Both Dynamic and JourneyBlitz Awards are self-service Awards and are exclusively available via www.flysaa.com. Mango Awards are available on www.flymango.com. The Award and ticket can only be issued in a single transaction.

Travel date changes can be made at a charge of R210, within the 6 or 12 month ticket validity. Lifetime Platinum, Platinum and Platinum Elect members are exempted from this charge.

Capping on SAA Voyager MasterCard Credit Card spend

Kindly note the terms and conditions for the SAA Voyager MasterCard Credit Card will change effective 27 April 2017. Earning of SAA Voyager Miles will be limited to a maximum monthly spend of R100 000 on the MasterCard. Should the spend threshold be reached within a month, continue to use your SAA Voyager American Express Credit Card, which has no spend limit, and offers the fastest Miles earn rate.
