Safari in Botswana

Safari Botswana

Moremi Game Reserve: Big cats, canoes and soul-stirring scenery

Botswana’s Okawango Delta is not only one of Africa’s most exclusive safari destinations, it’s also quite possibly the most beautiful: a breathtaking paradise of palm-fringed islands and lily-scattered flood plains. It is also home to an exceptionally high concentration of big game. Walking safaris aren’t permitted here, but the boat safaris are not to be missed. You can even go by canoe.

At the very heart of Okawango is the Moremi Game Reserve - otherwise known as the predator capital of Africa. The wildlife viewing here is exceptional all year round - you can see baby crocs swimming in crystal clear waters, and you’re virtually guaranteed to spot a lion on every game drive.

The finest camps are on the Chief’s Islands, and deliver lavish thrills - from prides of powerful cats to elephant herds, packs of wild dogs, towers of giraffe and bloats of hippo.

Chobe National Park: Crocs and river cruises near Victoria Falls

The peacock-blue Chobe River winds through Botswana’s most accessible national park, a stunning wilderness which supports a remarkable diversity of wildlife. It’s also affordable, and you can combine your visit with a trip to Victoria Falls.

In the dry season, you’ll see vast herds of elephants - up to 120,000 - gathering at the river to drink. You’ll also see lions stalking Cape buffalo on the riverfront. With over 440 bird species to spot, and a river teeming with hippos and crocs, it’s no surprise that motor boat safaris here are among the best in Africa.

Accommodation is largely located right on the waterfront and ranges from the luxurious (Chobe Chliweno) to good value ( Muchenje) and family-friendly (Chobe Game Lodge). Luxury tented camp Chobe Under Canvas offers lashings of atmosphere.
