    Professor John Lamola

    Professor John Lamola

    Group Chief Executive Officer

    Prof. Lamola brings a wealth of experience in the aviation industry. He served as chairperson of SAA’s Interim Board from July 2021 and has been the CEO since May 2022. He was CEO at Denel Aviation (DATAM) from 1996 to 2001 and served on the Board of Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) from 2012 to 2017. Before returning to full-time academia, he managed a private equity investment portfolio with holdings in aviation and internet technologies.

    Prof Lamola holds a PhD in Philosophy from Edinburgh University and an MBA from Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University, and serves as adjunct associate professor of Philosophy of Technology at the University of Johannesburg.

    Sange Mxenge

    Sange Mxenge

    Chief Strategy and Capital Planning Officer

    Sange Mxenge, CA(SA), leads enterprise strategy, capital planning, corporate finance and funding programmes, fleet strategy, investment governance, and strategic execution at South African Airways. He previously held corporate finance roles at SAA and Investec, served as a Senior Advisor at PwC, and worked as a Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Public Enterprises and in the Restructuring Unit at the Department of Public Enterprises.

    Chief Commercial Officer

    With 25+ years in airline commercial and operations, Tebogo Tsimane previously served as Head of Airport Operations and now oversees sales, revenue optimisation, marketing, product, call centres, SAA Voyager, and network & fleet planning.

    Chief Legal Officer

    Koekie Mbeki is a senior legal executive specialising in legislative drafting, policy, contract negotiation and vetting, litigation and dispute resolution. She has served as Senior Manager: Legal Services, Interim Chief Legal Counsel, and now Group Chief Legal Officer.

    Madodanele (Madoda) Nkalane

    ACTING Chief Airline Operations Officer

    Madoda Nkalane is an aviation leader with extensive experience across SAA and major South African airports (ORTIA, KSIA, Chief Dawid Stuurman). He oversees operational stability, people leadership, and service standards across SAA’s operational departments.

    Chief Corporate Affairs OFFICER

    Mphilo Dlamini is an experienced executive of over 25 years in corporate affairs, communications, public affairs, stakeholder management, reputation management, media relations, corporate social investment, marketing management. He has spent years working in aviation for companies such as Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) and in other industries such as Financial Services; Telecommunications; Automotive; FMCG to name a few. He is a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner (CPRP).

    Chief Technology Officer

    CTO leads the airline’s enterprise-wide technology strategy, digital transformation agenda, and innovation programmes. With responsibilities rooted in driving organisational improvement through modern technology and structured governance, The CTO plays a central role in enabling SAA’s operational resilience, customer experience enhancement, and long term sustainability through wide technology landscape across the airline while ensuring that SAA’s technology is strategically aligned to the airline’s growth objectives. He holds a Bcom, Bcom Hons, MBA and PhD.

    Non‑Executive Directors

    The Department of Transport (8 August 2025) announced that Cabinet approved the appointment of a new Board of Directors for South African Airways SOC Ltd (SAA). The Board brings diverse expertise across aviation, airport administration, logistics, commercial operations, governance, public policy, law, tourism, security, and financial administration. The shareholder has tasked the Board with overseeing a capital‑raising programme to support SAA’s fleet expansion from 20 to 50+ aircraft by 2030, without reliance on new sovereign guarantees.

    The Board is chaired by Ms. Sedzani Faith Mudau, with Ms. Fathima Gany as Deputy Chairperson.
