South African Airways (SAA) Cancels Flights to and from Mauritius due to tropical Cyclone Bansi

Johannesburg, 14 January 2015 – South African Airways will be sending two aircraft to Mauritius today to bring back passengers who could not travel after the airline cancelled its flight yesterday due to bad weather.

“We have taken pro-active steps to help the passengers in Mauritius by scheduling a bigger aircraft to operate the usual Mauritius flight, as well as an extra flight (A320) which will be positioned from Johannesburg to Mauritius in response to high demand and to accommodate as many passengers  as possible,” says  SAA Spokesperson, Tlali Tlali.

Today’s usual flights to Mauritius and back (SA190 and SA191) will operate with an A340-600 which is a bigger aircraft than usually used on the route, with 42 Business Class and 275 Economy Class seats.

An additional aircraft (A320) will fly to Mauritius as SA4192 from Johannesburg at 12:00 local time to arrive at 18:00; with SA3193 which will depart Mauritius at 18:30 to arrive in Johannesburg at 20:30.

These helpful steps follow the cancellation of Tuesday’s (13 January) flights to and from Mauritius due to bad weather caused by cyclone Bansi, which made flying to Mauritius unsafe.

“We are glad to say that we are bringing everyone home today and we would like to again apologise for the inconvenience,” says Tlali.
