One of the redemption benefits of a South African Airways (SAA) Voyager Credit Card is the Companion Ticket. The following explains how our members can reap its rewards:
Voyager Premium and Gold credit card holders are entitled to:
- One companion ticket every calendar year when they achieve the spend threshold of R60 000 and R80 000 respectively. This allows the cardholder to nominate a companion of their choice to accompany them on their next paying SAA operated flight (this excludes SA Express, Airlink, Star Alliance member airlines and code share flights).
- Book in qualifying fare classes so that members can use their companion benefit. These include all Business Class fare categories and Y, B, M, K and H economy class fare categories.
Voyager premium and gold credit card holders have to pay all applicable taxes and levies. These include government and airport taxes which is payable to the relevant authorities. Fuel levies are payable to SAA. These taxes are applicable to all SAA tickets, as well as Voyager tickets and the Companion Ticket. This information is included in all advertising material.
The first four economy class fare categories are generally higher in price descending from Y to K. The category ‘H’ was added to make it easier for card holders to qualify for a Companion Ticket. The reason why only certain classes have been chosen to qualify for this benefit is because the fare classes Y, B, M, K and H are more flexible and some have no penalties.
When flying in business or economy class a companion ticket is always issued on a full fare basis, irrespective of whether the revenue ticket is in one of the qualifying discounted fares. Should you therefore wish to make changes on the companion ticket, you will not be penalised for making travel date changes.
Other benefits associated with the Voyager Credit Card:
- Enjoy membership to the Voyager Loyalty Programme, which allows you to earn additional Voyager Miles with participating airline partners, hotels and car rental companies.
- In addition, you may receive an extension on your miles expire – all you need to do is spend R40 000 per calendar year.
Whilst other airline programmes require you to spend R250 000 or more per year for domestic lounge access only, with us you simply need to present your SAA Voyager Premium credit card and your SAA flight ticket, and enjoy the comfort and relaxation of SAA owned departure lounges.
Premium card holders can enjoy Business Class check-in regardless of class of travel which makes your travel experience with SAA even more convenient.
We would like to urge our customers to familiarize themselves with our continuous communication channels such as the Voyager newsletter, Sawubona (in-flight magazine), SAA website and the information brochure attached to the application form.
Upon approval of the Credit Card application a brochure is included in the welcome pack outlining the card benefits and once the spend threshold is reached a personalized letter is sent to card holders notifying them of their qualification and how to use the benefit and the Terms and Conditions.
