JOHANNESBURG. 22 JANUARY 2010
South African Airways (SAA) will transport 15 volunteer medics on its flight from Johannesburg to New York in order for them to join other disaster relief teams in Haiti.
The team, which includes a trauma doctor, trauma nurses, advanced life support medics and trauma counselors from the NGO, SA Emergency Disaster response in conjunction with iKhambi Care, will depart this evening on SAA flight SA203 to New York.
The team will travel with much needed medical supplies donated by iKhambi Care, the transportation of which is being sponsored by SAA Cargo.
As a way of expressing our compassion to the people of Haiti and to reach out to them, the airline is working as part of the South African government team in offering whatever support we can to the people of Haiti.
A plea for SAA staff to make contributions towards those affected in Haiti in the form of blankets, clothing and other donations, has yielded an overwhelming response. These items will be shipped to Haiti in the next few days. Cash contributions from staff members will be donated to the central fund for the people of Haiti.
