SAA honoured with two prestigious Feather Awards

 

Johannesburg. 8 December 2011. South African Airways (SAA) today won a prestigious Feather Award from the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) honouring the airline as the Best Full Service Airline at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA). This was the second Feather Award SAA received this year, after walking away with Best Domestic (full service) carrier at Port Elizabeth airport.
 
The airline’s low cost carrier, Mango, was also honoured with an award as Best Domestic (low cost) airline.
 
The Feather Awards is ACSA’s service excellence rewards programme. The awards are based on the findings of two independent organisations, the Transport Research Laboratory based in the UK and the Airports Council based in Switzerland.
 
ACSA annually presents these rewards to industry players, airlines and aviation service providers who have excelled in service excellence to airlines and companies working in the South African aviation industry.
 
ACSA hosts an annual Feather Awards at each of its airports to honour and thank service providers that have demonstrated excellent service.
 
Other major awards SAA collected this year include:
 
  • SAA in June won two major awards from Skytrax, the Best Airline Africa award and the Service Excellence Africa award. This was the ninth consecutive year that SAA outperformed other airlines by winning these two awards. The title Best Airline Africa, is awarded to the airline rated the best in the region for all the different items of airline front-line product and service. The Service Excellence Africa award was given to SAA for the second consecutive year. A quality, unrivalled product as well as unwavering service standards and consistency experienced at the airport and onboard the aircraft were judging criteria for this award. The Skytrax awards are based on customer responses to an online survey, which is run over a 10 month period on the Skytrax website. The study analyses customer satisfaction for the Airline Passenger Experience across the airport and onboard environments – from check-in to boarding, onboard seat comfort, cabin cleanliness, food and beverages, In Flight Entertainment (IFE) and staff service (behaviour, attitudes and consistency). This year, 18.8 million airline customers from over 100 different nationalities participated in the survey.  The survey includes over 200 airlines, from the largest international airlines to the smallest domestic airlines, and measured standards across more than 38 different items of airline front-line products and service. 
  • An award for Coolest Domestic Airline at the Sunday Times Generation Next 2011 Survey Awards, where the 'coolest' brands to the youth were revealed. The survey to find out which brands are the coolest was run amongst 7200 young urbanites from six major provinces, who were polled on everything from the ‘coolest’ fast food outlets to cellular network providers, celebrities to fashion brands, banks to tertiary institutions as well as airlines.
  • SAA Cargo was awarded in April as the Best African Cargo Airline by Cargo News for the fourth consecutive year at the Air Cargo News (ACN) Awards Ceremony held in London. The ACN Cargo Airline of the year awards, have been running for 26 years and is run through the Air Cargo News website. SAA Cargo was the overall winner in the category of Best Cargo African Airline.
  • In May SAA won the Platinum Award for its exquisite exhibition stand at this year’s Tourism Indaba in May. Indaba is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African continent. It is held annually to showcase the widest variety of South Africa’s best tourism products and attracts many international visitors and media.
