Johannesburg. 15 April 2010
South African Airways has cancelled its flights to and from London scheduled for departure today. This comes after Heathrow International Airport in London was closed due to volcanic ash over European airspace caused by recent volcanic activity in Iceland. This closure of the airport follows a directive from European Air Traffic. The following SAA flights scheduled to have departed today have been cancelled:
SA234 Johannesburg to London
SA235 London to Johannesburg
SA220 Cape Town to London
SA221 London to Cape Town
Passengers booked on the above flights will be re-accommodated on alternative flights once normal operations are resumed. Customers can contact SAA reservations on (011) 978 9111 or their travel agent for assistance with rebooking their flight on an alternative date.
SAA would like to apologise to its customers for any inconvenience caused by these flight cancellations. Our priority is the safety of our passengers and crew and we will monitor the situation in London closely as well as throughout Europe to ensure that operations are resumed once conditions are safe.
All other SAA’s international flights other than London are currently operating as normal. Any changes to this will be communicated as soon as possible.
