Severe cross winds in Mauritius forces SAA to cancel flights

Johannesburg, 16 April 2013. South African Airways (SAA) wishes to advise its customers that due to severe cross winds in Mauritius, the airline had no choice but to cancel flights in the interest of the safety. The forecast winds blowing across the runways in Mauritius were in excess of the SAA operating limits.

The affected flights are:

• SA 191, Mauritius to Johannesburg, that was scheduled to depart at 16:40 on 16 April 2013

In conjunction with the relevant role players, SAA will monitor the situation and resume operations as soon as conditions are deemed safe for air travel. Arrangements have been made to make use of a bigger aircraft to transport customers to and from Mauritius tomorrow (17 April 2013) during normal scheduled times.

SAA wishes to convey its unreserved apologies to those affected by these developments. As a responsible airline, SAA puts the safety of its passengers and crew ahead of everything else.
