The information below relates to the procedures in place pursuant to EC Regulation 1107/2006 Carriage of Disabled Persons and Persons with Reduced Mobility. The purpose of this Regulation is to improve access to air transport for passengers with reduced mobility, including disabled persons and those with specific requirements who would not normally be classed as disabled, such as older persons or those with a temporary mobility. The Regulation covers flights from, transiting through, or arriving at an airport situated in the European Union. Making your reservation: Please ensure that you advise of assistance required at least 48 hours prior to departure if booking through a travel agent and at least 36 hours prior to departure if booking directly through South African Airways. Passengers with shorter pre-notification will receive the same service but a longer waiting period might be inevitable during peak times. Please ensure that the assistance requested in your reservation has been confirmed before you arrive at the airport. At the airport: Please make your way to the Passenger Assistance Desk situated in Zone E, Terminal 1 at Heathrow Airport. Should you require assistance from outside the terminal, help stations are situated throughout the airport parking areas and passenger drop off zones. The Passenger Assistance Desk will arrange for you to be provided with assistance to the Airline Check in counters, airport security and boarding of the aircraft. Please ensure that you arrive no later than 2 hours prior to your flight departure time in order to complete this process. Depending on individual needs, assistance will be provided beyond the baggage arrival hall (with limited hand baggage), provided the items can be accommodated by the passenger. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our Call Centre. South African Airways offers wheelchair facilities to all our passengers with reduced mobility.
